A naturally occurring algal bloom is affecting some coastal areas in South Australia.

While it can be harmful to marine life, it’s not dangerous to people long term.

The algal bloom has turned the water discoloured and foamy in some areas. It has affected about 400 types of fish and marine animals.

To support the crisis response, a $28 million support package has been announced.

Funded by the South Australian and Australian governments, it will go towards research, clean-up efforts, community support, industry help, and public information.
